This is really some great advice and I can tell you that in the photography industry (of which I am associated with), we are afraid to command higher prices for our work.
During my coaching sessions with these photographers, many of whom struggle for ways to sell photos, I need to remind them that they are in the business to make money so they can do what they love.
Free does not put food in your mouth and will generally put you out of business. Associations are valuable memberships, which if run properly, will give you many more times the investment you make as a member.
